CHA 2012 Summer Show Recognizes Excellence In The Craft Industry


The 2012 Summer Show hosted 172 exhibiting companies filling 61,028 net square feet of exhibit space. The Show attracted 3,111 attendees representing over 600 buying companies from 43 states and 34 countries. Fifteen percent of Show attendees were internationally based with the greatest number coming from Canada, Brazil, Japan, Mexico and Norway.

Despite the declining numbers in attendance, the smaller Show delivered substantial foot traffic to exhibitors’ booths and valuable product recognition was received through product launches and the Show awards. Show floor activities such as the daily “The Next Iron Crafter Challenge” a fast paced, high-energy crafting competition which challenged audience members to create a mixed media project in under 10 minutes using a mystery product, kept both exhibitors and attendees engaged and created buzz and excitement on the Show floor.

“CHA Summer 2012 was better than expected” says Sonia Viteri, Assistant Product Manager of Tombow, USA.  “With so many opportunities for exposure such as the workshops and the product showcases, and the great number of people visiting our booth, it was definitely worth our time and investment. We look forward participating in the upcoming CHA 2013 Winter Show.”

During the Show, CHA member companies were recognized for their outstanding Trade Show achievements. The following awards were presented:

The Innovations Showcase brings together the newest ideas and most innovative products from exhibiting companies.

The CHA Exhibiting with Excellence Award is presented to exhibitors as the gold-standard of exhibiting. Winners were selected by CHA’s Trade Show Consultants, Competitive Edge – an exhibitor education, training and consulting firm. Booths are judged based on: Exhibit Design, Product Merchandising/Demonstrations and Exhibit Staff.

IMPROVING ECONOMY BODES WELL FOR CHA 2010 WINTER SHOW

Trade Show Attendance Up Nearly 5%

 

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (February 9, 2010) – The signs of a recovering economy were evident at the CHA 2010 Winter Convention & Trade Show and inaugural Craft SuperShow at the Anaheim Convention Center, with nearly 14,000 industry professionals and craft and hobby enthusiasts gathered for the events.

The CHA 2010 Winter Show featured more than 6,700 trade show attendees, up from 6,400 attendees at the 2009 Winter Show. With over 100 new exhibitors this year, there was a 40% increase in the new exhibitors at the Show. The number of retail buyers attending the 2010 Winter Show also increased slightly over last year.   Exhibiting space at the Anaheim Convention Center totaled 227,000 sq. ft. for both the Trade Show (185,250 sq. ft.) and the Craft SuperShow consumer event (41,288 sq. ft.).

 “The CHA Winter Show continues to perform well even in a challenging economy,” said Steve Berger, President and CEO, CHA. “The fact that we had nearly a 5% increase in attendees and over 100 new exhibitors is a positive indicator of the strength of the industry and the CHA Winter Show.”

“It’s been an amazing trade show for us. We completely exceeded our sales goals. It’s been the primary vehicle for us to launch our new product to the craft and hobby industry,” said first-time Winter Show exhibitor Lisa Waddington, VP Sales & Marketing, Annabelle Noel Designs. “We’re absolutely thrilled, and we’re looking forward to the next show.”

“In four years of exhibiting, this has by far been our best Show,” said returning Scrapbook exhibitor and owner of Canvas Home Basics, Christine Meier. “Every single buyer we’ve worked with opened new doors for us, and it’s been a very, very good show for us in that respect.”

            Despite rains, a tornado watch, flooding and mud slides in Southern California, the Anaheim debut of the Craft SuperShow was also a huge success with 8,044 attendees coming out to craft.  More than 3,500 consumers purchased pre-sale tickets with people traveling from 36 different states and 22 different countries to experience the CHA SuperShow in Anaheim.         

            “The response to our inaugural SuperShow in Anaheim demonstrates that we can be successful at growing the industry by introducing consumers to different crafts,” explained Berger.  “We believe the SuperShow will continue to grow as more and more consumers experience a broader variety of crafts first-hand, and then share what they learn with their friends and family.”

 

CHA ANNOUNCES 2010 WINTER SHOW AWARDS

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (January 26, 2010) –The Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) is proud to announce the winners of the 2010 Winter Show Awards, including the Innovations Showcase, Golden Press Kit, Designer Press Kit and Exhibiting with Excellence Awards.   Each award was presented at the 2010 Winter Convention & Trade Show in Anaheim, California, on January 26, 2010.
These coveted awards represent the industry’s most prestigious recognition for product innovation, trade show exhibition, and press kit design.  Judged by CHA staff, consultants, members of the press and retailers, CHA member companies were recognized for their outstanding contributions to craft and hobby industry. 

“These products, exhibits, and press materials help tell a compelling, innovative industry story. We’re proud to announce these winners,” said CHA President and CEO Steve Berger.

INNOVATIONS SHOWCASE WINNERS
The Innovations Showcase brought together the newest ideas and most innovative products from exhibiting companies.  Retailers, CHA members, CHA consultants and members of the press attending the show voted and selected the best products of the Show, as well as the “Overall Best Innovation.” The winners were:

EXHIBITING WITH EXCELLENCE
The CHA Exhibiting with Excellence Awards were presented to companies whose dynamic displays, merchandising techniques and inviting staff enhance the overall atmosphere of the Show floor.  Voted on by members of the press, consultants, and CHA staff, the judging criteria included use of floor space, visual appeal of exhibitor booths, and overall presence and friendliness of staff.  Three winners were chosen:

PRESS KIT AWARD COMPETITION WINNERS
Several exhibiting manufacturers vied for top place in the Golden Press Kit competition, which awards the design/content, creativity and thoroughness of each company’s press kit.  CHA Designer members also had a chance to display their press kit innovations as part of the Designer Press Kit competition.  Members of the press selected the following winners:
