The CHA SoCal Chapter recently participated in the Curacao Mother’s Day Event at Children’s Hospital LA. Chapter member Ruth Garcia-Corrales and the Curacao team plan this annual event to bring crafting to the kids, and massages and manicures to their moms and nurses. Curacao is an active supporter of the Children’s Hospital and presented a $10,000 donation during the event.
At Curacao’s invitation, the CHA SoCal Chapter steering committee pulled together an awesome line-up of kids’ crafts keeping in mind the limited mobility of some of the patients. It was our goal to bring a ray of creative sunshine to the kids and a few hours of relaxation to the parents and hospital staff.
Julianna Hudgins teamed up with Jesse James Beads to create stretchy cord beaded bracelets with the kids, parents, nurses and therapists. This creative table was non-stop during the event! With hundreds of beads to choose from, each bracelet was easy for the patients to personalize in favorite colors, sizes and textures.
Melody Nunez from Sizzix/Ellison taught how to use the Sizzix Big Shot to cut card stock and embellishments and the kids and adults made Mother’s Day themed cards from very simple to beautifully artistic.
Shelby Strichard from me & my BIG ideas filled this creative station with scrapbooking papers, embellishments and stickers. The kids were able to have their photos taken and instantly print out a photo to scrapbook on their pages. This was a great mom and me project during the event!
Jonathan Fong and Craft Attitude provided wood shapes, pre-printed film and bling for the kids to express their creativity. This creative station was also a favorite of the hospital staff!
CHA SoCal Chapter member Carmen Flores-Tanis crafted cards with supplies provided Stampendous, Faber Castell, Prima and Aleene’s and glitter provided by chapter member Tracy Alden. The pre-stamped Stampendous PenPattern images were quick and easy to color and the cards were quickly personalized and assembled bringing smiles to many faces!
Crafting celebrities Jonathan Fong, Tiffany Windsor and Julianna Hudgins enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with fellow chapter members and craft with the kids! Chapter member Ruth Garcia-Corrales and Laurie James, Assistant Vice President, Corporate Partnerships Foundation Department CHLA loved the crafting projects!
It takes vision, determination and a whole team to plan and staff these events. Thank you to the manufacturers who donated their supplies and personnel, and the CHA SoCal Chapter members and volunteers for making this happen. We are incredibly honored to bring crafting to Children’s Hospital LA and inspired by the families and staff who shared a few hours of crafting with us.
