CHA Crafty Couture - CHA Designer Challenge

about the contest

The mixed-media phenomenon is growing in popularity across the world as craft enthusiasts breakdown traditional craft barriers to unleash their creativity. This year at the CHA 2011 Summer Conference & Trade Show CHA will draw attention to this major trend with a Show theme of Craft Fusion: The Selling Power of Mixed Media and through a special mixed-media demonstration and exhibition area on the Show floor.

CHA is holding a competition and challenging CHA DESIGNER MEMBERS to create a mixed-media “Crafty Couture” non-wearable gown worthy of the runway and red carpet. The catch? Your gown must incorporate at least two different craft products from different segments of the industry (ex. Yarn and Beads, Paint and Wood, Paper and Fabric).

The gowns will be displayed in The Craft Fusion Center, centrally located on the Show floor to inspire attendees with fresh ideas and creative possibilities. But most importantly, the display will demonstrate how different products in our industry, regardless of their primary segment, can be integrated into new opportunities for consumers, retailers and manufacturers.

The first step is to develop a “Crafty Couture” concept and submit it to CHA using the official Entry Form. CHA will select 20 of the most innovative concepts submitted at which time Designers will be tasked with turning their concept into reality! The final gowns will be displayed at the Summer Conference & Trade Show and a select 6 of the 20 fashions will appear in an upcoming issue of CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS® magazine! This is your chance to get your original design into a national publication.

Designers may partner with other designers but only one entry form per team will be accepted. Contestants may also alter an existing garment as long as the final submission incorporates at least two different craft products. The gowns do not have to be wearable, they simply have to fit on a mannequin/body form that CHA will provide for display at the Show. They mannequin/body form measurements will be provided to the selected 20 entries no later than May 20th.
