SUSAN BATES WINS 2009 FLAMIE FOR BEST CROCHET HOOK

(CHARLOTTE, NC) . . . Hooks may come and hooks may go but for the Susan Bates® brand from Coats & Clark, its crochet hooks are thought of as simply the best.  Susan Bates has been chosen as the Best Crochet Hook by a Corporation as part of the Crochet Liberation’s Fronts’ 2009 Annual Crochet Awards.

The annual awards are a highly-prestigious honor as the selections are made based on popular vote by the worldwide crocheting public.  Eight other brands were nominated in this category. Joan Barnett, implements and crochet thread product manager for Coats & Clark accepted the digital Flaming Crochet Hook of Justice at www.gettingloopy.com, Monday, April 19, via a podcast.

The annual crochet awards began when Crochet Liberation Front (CLF) (www.crochetliberationfront.com) member Ellen Gormley (www.GoCrochet.com) requested an “Oscars” like event for crochet.  There are 23 total categories in which crocheters around the world can select their favorites for such things as Best Crochet Video by an Amateur, Best Crochet Instructor and Best Crochet Designer Men’s, to name a few.  The Flamies even present a Lifetime Achievement Award. The CLF is a movement of able hooksters across the globe whose aim is simple: Global Domination of the Hook!

Susan Bates began in 1937 as part of C. J. Bates and Sons and was acquired by Coats & Clark in the 1980s.  Today, Susan Bates is designed for comfort, performance and durability, offering the broadest selection of crochet hooks, knitting needles and needlework accessories.
